Shelf Stable Probiotics

A lot of our customers wonder how we create probiotic products that don't require refrigeration (shelf stable). Shelf stable supplements are very convenient for travel and storage, and because so many of you are curious about the process, I thought I'd share some more information on our matrix encapsulation process. If you ever need more information on our products, just ask by filling out the private form in the upper right corner of this page.

Thanks for all your great questions!

Probiotic Matrix Encapsulation:
Our probiotics are made shelf stable as a result of matrix encapsulation. Before the probiotics are frozen, natural saccarides and polymers (think carbohydrates) are added as "protectants". These "protectants" surround the cell walls of the probiotics, preventing moisture from rupturing the cell wall during the freezing process. The saccarides and polymers eventually form a "matrix" that "encapsulates" the probiotics. This process is tweaked and perfected to yield optimal stability.
