Probiotics as a Yogurt Starter?

Customers have asked me if they can use the probiotics in Flora Source® Multi-Probiotic® as a yogurt starter. While Flora Source works well as a supplement to support digestive and immune health, it is not the best choice for a yogurt starter, and here's why.

Probiotics as a Yogurt Starter
There are two strains of "culturing good bacteria" used for making yogurt--Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. These are the strains that turn milk into yogurt. It is best to purchase these strains prepared specifically as a yogurt starter. Flora Source® Multi-Probiotic® contains 14 other beneficial probiotic strains that are not yogurt culturing strains. They have been cultured individually in a labratory and are blended later into the Flora Source formula. it is best not to culture them together, like you would with a yogurt starter, but find a blend sold as a yogurt starter.
